Staff Photographer will cover all photography needs assigned by the Department of External Affairs to produce pictures for publications and web sites. Reporting to the Associate Director for Multimedia Communications, the position is responsible for producing a wide variety of creative, high-quality images of people and events for the university’s homepage, various university web sites, as well as print publications produced by Marketing and Communications. The staff photographer will also be encouraged to produce multimedia presentations, including audio, video and still photography, for online environments including university websites and social media.

Responsibilities include scheduling and coordinating in-studio and on-location photo shoots to complete assignments; planning and coordinating with writers, editors and others in Marketing and Communications to identify appropriate concepts, people and locations for photos assigned; taking multiple photographs as part of each assignment to provide editors and writers with options; enhancing quality of digital images as appropriate to prepare them for publication; archiving the images in the digital repository to make them easily retrievable; handling and maintaining all photo equipment and arranging for repair as needed.

Must be available for frequent night and weekend work projects. Flexibility and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment are required.

Staff photographer must have:

- Creative talent and solid technical knowledge of relevant digital equipment and imaging/editing software, including Photoshop and Photo Mechanic
- Ability to work with natural, strobe flash and studio lighting to produce high-quality images that require minimal editing
- Experience shooting with Nikon DSLR cameras
- Experience producing multimedia presentations, including audio, video and still photography, as well as editing productions in Final Cut Pro, is a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Energetic, proactive attitude and willingness to propose ideas and take initiative
- Ability to follow direction with a positive attitude
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills

Qualifications:

4-6 years of experience doing various types of photography with both natural and studio lighting, including portraits of people; environmental portraits; images of objects; on-location news coverage; crowd shots; etc. Experience in multimedia and higher education is a plus.

Knowledge of digital imaging and editing software is a must.
