The Small Planet Institute (SPI), office of Frances Moore Lappé, seeks a dynamic individual who shares the organization’s mission to serve as the Editorial and Administrative Assistant on a part-time basis.
The Editorial and Administrative Assistant will support SPI by contributing as needed to the varied and dynamic initiatives of the institute, including but not limited to promotional copy writing, web content creation, copy-editing, fact-checking, and administrative assistance. This is an opportunity to work at the center of a small organization doing groundbreaking work on hunger, poverty, and living democracy. Our ideal candidate is energetic enough to keep up in a fast-paced environment, is flexible enough to work on a wide variety of assignments, possesses a keen attention to detail, and, perhaps most critically, is a superb writer and wordsmith.
Responsibilities:
1) Research and Writing
Drafting copy for SPI’s websites & social media outlets
Copy-editing material prior to publication
Fact checking and conducting research to support various writing projects undertaken by Frances
Writing press releases and features in a public relations or journalistic style
2) Web, Website, and Social Media
Consulting on and contributing to our current social media and AdWords campaigns
Updating our website, including newsroom articles, event postings, and educational materials
Liaising between multiple contractors (i.e IT, graphic design, web developer)
Quarterly newsletter content creation
3) Administrative Assistance
Coordinating logistics, including travel arrangements & some event planning
Managing database and e-blasts; primarily Salesforce & MailChimp
Supporting current initiatives as needed
Qualifications:
Demonstrated commitment to the SPI mission and goals
Excellent writing and editorial skills – both promotional and analytical
Familiarity with the issues with which SPI works
High level of energy, enthusiasm, and flexibility
Facility with Outlook, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Experience with website maintenance and/or development strongly preferred
Bachelor's Degree or the equivalent
Compensation, including a health care stipend, will be based on the qualifications of the candidate. SPI is an equal opportunity employer.
