American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra (AFIPO) is the North American fundraising arm of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. AFIPO’s goal is to raise funds for the Orchestra’s educational and outreach programs, operating budget, international touring, capital expenditures, and archival projects, through special events, annual and specialized campaigns, grant writing, and planned giving. The American Friends of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra is a non-profit organization, with a fast-paced office environment.

The Special Events Assistant is a contract position (30-40 hours per week) beginning immediately until November 2012. There is a possibility that this may evolve into a permanent position. The Special Events Assistant will report to the West Coast Director and will focus on various aspects of special events and development.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Assist in production of events including but not limited to our October gala benefit
Event related mailings
Assisting with vendor relationships
Managing RSVP tracking lists and records of donor gifts
Proofreading and editing of donor correspondance and marketing materials
Assist in production of printed materials such as invitations and programs
Organize and coordinate meetings
Conduct background research and maintain biographical profiles on current and prospective donors
Draft correspondence, reports and other written material
Office managerial tasks such as answering phones, organizing office and filing
Coordinate special project initiatives with supervisor
Work in collaboration with staff on various aspects of fundraising events and cultivation, with a focus on young leadership
Skills/Qualifications required:

Creative, highly organized individual with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
Ability to multi-task and effectively manage concurrent processes/projects
Exceptional attention to detail and must have excellent analytical, communication and writing skills
Willing to handle diverse workload, exert a high level of initiative with a great degree of flexibility
Ability to filter and summarize large quantities of written information.
Professional appearance/demeanor and ability to handle confidential materials
Must be able to interact with all levels of staff, volunteers, donors, and the public by phone or in person
Exceptional computer skills with particular emphasis on Microsoft Office and including database management
Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management program is required
Bachelor’s degree required, minimum of 2 years experience in non-profit and/or event planning
