Position Overview: The Youth Work Experience/Service Learning Coordinator provides at-risk, dropout and ex-offender youth with access to integrated service learning and work experiences emphasizing youth empowerment and community involvement.

Position Responsibilities:
Work with West Town Academy High School (WTA) faculty to develop and implement service learning curriculum in the classroom.
Assist in training teachers to implement community service learning strategies.
Serve as a community liaison for the West Town Academy (WTA) to coordinate community sites for individual student and group service learning projects.
Work with local businesses and community leaders to develop innovative strategies to connect students with local efforts to identify and address community needs and opportunities.
Assists the Youth Employment Specialist/Job Developer in organizing and coordinating youth leadership and community service learning opportunities, including work experience/internships.
Provides effective leadership that empowers youth to take responsibility for themselves, their families and their community
Assists in program administration and documentation
Qualifications/Requirements: Candidates should possess a commitment to community service, a BA or equivalent skills; 3 years of related experience, ideally working with integrated service learning or juvenile/restorative justice.

About GWTP Youth Programs and the West Town Academy:

Greater West Town Project’s (GWTP) Youth Development Programs are operated in coordination with the West Town Academy Alternative High School (WTA). The WTA is a state-recognized diploma-granting high school for students who have dropped out of Chicago Public Schools and wish to complete their secondary education. 75% of our students are African-American, and 25% are Latino. Students range in age from 17-21 years of age. Youth Program participants are from low-income families, and approximately 25% are ex-offenders.

Employment type: Full time

Salary range (annual, U.S. $): 35,000 - 40,000

Salary details: This is a full time, permanent, career position. The salary range is from $35,000 to $40,000 per year based on skills and experience.
