Breast Cancer Society of Canada
9th Annual National Dress Down Day
For Immediate Release
Each day 51 Canadians are diagnosed with breast cancer. This affects
1 in 9 women, and 2% of men. Every day breast cancer steals the
lives of 15 Canadians. 70% have no risk factors.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Breast Cancer
Society of Canada is proud to announce their 9th Annual Dress Down
Day. This national event takes place across the country and encourages
small and large businesses, educational institutions and other organizations
to participate. We ask employees to participate in dressing casual
or formal; wear corporate colours; wear pink ribbons; host a bake
sale, a barbecue or a pot luck lunch; challenge your peers, challenge
your boss or hold competitions. You can choose to have this event
on the above stated date (October 6) or an alternate day that that
is more convenient for your school or business. Your $5.00 suggested
individual participation goes a long way towards funding breast
cancer research. It goes even further if your employer agrees to
match it! Help us reach our goal to raise over $500,000 this year.
Faculty and students at universities, colleges and secondary schools
can also participate and have fun by choosing a theme such as casual
day; crazy hair day; pajama day; inside out day; wear your school
colours or not day; host a bake sale or barbecue. Imagination is
the key, and above all is to have fun with your theme day.
By participating at this event each and every one of you is playing
a vital role in raising awareness, raising dollars and raising hope
that through research breast cancer will some day cease to exist.
The Breast Cancer Society of Canada is a national, registered,
volunteer-driven, non-profit, charitable organization. It was established
in 1991 for the purpose of raising funds for Canadian research into
the
prevention, early detection and treatment of breast cancer; as well
as to ultimately find a cure for the disease women fear the most.
