CCTT Welcomes New President, Vice-President

New senior executives bring award-winning expertise, solid leadership to the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.

Ottawa, ON, Nov. 24, 2003 - The Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) is pleased to announce that its board of directors elected a new president and vice-president at CCTT's annual general meeting in QuÉbec City. RÉjean Touchette, T.P., and Lois Sterner, CET, RET, respectively, will provide CCTT with the proven leadership and expertise it requires to strengthen and expand its national vision for the promotion of technology.

A graduate in architectural technology from the CollÈge du Vieux-MontrÉal, Mr. Touchette is a CCTT national director and a senior officer at the Canadian Space Agency. He has won numerous awards throughout his career, including two PWGSC Deputy Minister Awards of Excellence for his extensive skill in financial management.

With these significant resources, I look forward to continuing to build a national organization that promotes technology nationally and internationally by respecting the wishes of its provincial members."

Prior to becoming CCTT president, Mr. Touchette was the vice-president of finance for the Ordre des technologues professionnels du QuÉbec (OTPQ) and the SociÉtÉ quÉbÉcoise pour le development des technologues (SODET). OTPQ/SODET is a CCTT constituent member association representing certified technicians and technologists in the province of QuÉbec.

Lois Sterner, RET, CET, is a senior laboratory technologist with ATCO Gas in Calgary, Alberta. A chemical technologist by training, Ms. Sterner is a national CCTT director and head of CCTT's regulatory affairs committee. The committee drafted six principles for the regulation of certified technicians and technologists that were approved by CCTT's board of directors in November. These regulations are integral to CCTT's long-term goal of developing a pan-Canadian definition of practice guidelines. An experienced lobbyist on behalf of Canada's certified technicians and technologists, Ms. Sterner says her extensive knowledge of CCTT's history will ensure it becomes a "stronger organization."

"I believe in the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists and what it can do for the technician and technologist professions. This is a critical time for Canada's certified technicians and technologists, and therefore for CCTT. Canada faces a shortage of 17,000 of these professionals in the next two years, and CCTT will play a critical role in promoting technology careers to young people and in working with industry to ensure a steady supply of highly-skilled workers."

Prior to becoming CCTT vice-president, Ms. Sterner was vice-president and president of the Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), a CCTT constituent member. Ms. Sterner is a recipient of ASET's Award of Merit, Honourary Life Membership.

Des administrateurs chevronnÉs apportent leur expertise et leur leadership ÉprouvÉs au Conseil canadien des techniciens et technologues

Ottawa, le 24 nov. 20 - Le Conseil canadien des techniciens et technologues (CCTT) est heureux d'annoncer que son conseil d'administration a Élu un nouveau prÉsident et une nouvelle vice-prÉsidente lors de son assemblÉe gÉnÉrale annuelle qui s'est dÉroulÉe à QuÉbec. RÉjean Touchette, T.P., et Lois Sterner, CET, RET, donneront au CCTT le leadership et l'expertise requis pour renforcer et Étendre sa vision nationale pour la promotion de la technologie.

DiplômÉ en technologie de l'architecture du CollÈge du Vieux-MontrÉal, M. Touchette est un administrateur national du CCTT et un cadre supÉrieur au sein de l'Agence spatiale canadienne. Il a mÉritÉ plusieurs prix au cours de sa carriÈre, incluant le Prix d'excellence du sous-ministre adjoint de TPSGC pour la qualitÉ de gestion de ses projets.

Avant d'accÉder à la prÉsidence du CCTT, M. Touchette Était vice-prÉsident des finances de l'Ordre des technologues professionnels du QuÉbec (OTPQ) et de la SociÉtÉ quÉbÉcoise pour le dÉveloppement des technologues (SODET). L'OTPQ/SODET est une association membre constituante du CCTT reprÉsentant les techniciens et technologues agrÉÉs du QuÉbec.

Lois Sterner, RET, CET, est technologue de laboratoire principale chez ATCO Gas à Calgary. Technologue en chimie de formation, Mme Sterner est une administratrice nationale du CCTT et prÉsidente du comitÉ de la rÉglementation du CCTT. Ce comitÉ a dÉfini six principes pour la rÉglementation des techniciens et technologues agrÉÉs. Ces principes, qui ont ÉtÉ approuvÉs par le conseil d'administration du CCTT au mois de novembre, font partie intÉgrante de l'objectif à long terme du CCTT qui est d'Établir une dÉfinition pan-canadienne des normes d'exercice de la profession. Une porte-parole dÉvouÉe des techniciens et technologues agrÉÉs du Canada, Mme Sterner affirme qu'elle mettra à profit sa connaissance approfondie de l'historique du CCTT pour en faire une « organisation plus forte ».

Nous vivons une pÉriode critique pour les techniciens et technologues agrÉÉs du Canada, et donc pour le CCTT. Le Canada fera face une pÉnurie de 17 000 de ces professionnels au cours des deux prochaines annÉes et le CCTT jouera un rôle crucial dans la promotion de carriÈres en technologie auprÈs des jeunes. Il travaillera aussi avec l'industrie pour assurer un apport constant de travailleurs hautement qualifiÉs. »

Avant la vice-prÉsidence du CCTT, Mme Sterner Était vice-prÉsidente et prÉsidente de l'Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists (ASET), une association membre constituante du CCTT. Mme Sterner est rÉcipiendaire du Prix d'excellence et membre honoraire à vie de l'ASET.
