Energy Powerhouse CEO Named Honourary Chair
of Canada's Largest Health and Safety Event
TORONTO (August, 2004) -- Duncan Hawthorne, President and CEO of
Bruce Power, steps up to the podium as honourary chair of Canada's
premier health and safety event, the Industrial Accident Prevention
Association's (IAPA) "Health & Safety Canada 2005"
conference and trade show taking place April 4-6, 2005 in Toronto.
"Duncan Hawthorne is an outspoken advocate of workplace health
and safety," says Maureen Shaw, President and CEO of IAPA and
chair of Health & Safety Canada 2005. "He's a profound
and motivating speaker who backs up his passionate beliefs with
results."
The award winning executive heads Ontario's largest independent
power generator. Bruce Power employs 3,000 workers and supplies
20 per cent of Ontario's power needs. Bruce Power is also a safety
leader. As of August 25, 2004, the organization achieved a record
4.4 million hours worked without an acute lost-time injury.
Bruce Power's safety record results from innovative programming
and the integration of health and safety into organizational performance
objectives. "This type of leadership serves as a model for
all industry sectors," says Shaw.
Bruce Power's story, and those of other business and injury prevention
leaders, will bring to life the event's theme for 2005: "Effective
Results Through Learning and Sharing."
Celebrating its 88th anniversary in 2005, this annual IAPA event
draws over 6,000 delegates to over 370 exhibits and 150 sessions.
Hundreds of leading experts, policy makers and health and safety
practitioners will be on hand to help delegates improve health and
safety in their workplaces, in keeping with the association's vision
of "a world where risks are controlled because everyone believes
that suffering and loss are morally, socially, and economically
unacceptable." A not-for-profit organization, IAPA serves 47,000
member firms representing 1.5 million workers across Ontario.
