CANADA's PREMIER GUIDE TO
SENIORS' HOUSING AND CARE ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH ONTARIO RESIDENTIAL
CARE ASSOCIATION (ORCA)
Association to Adopt Guide
as Members' Seniors' Housing and Care Directory;
Member Residences Currently Home to 21,000 Seniors in Ontario.
TORONTO, June 17, 2003. ORCA, the Ontario Residential Care Association
and The Care Guide, Canada’s premier guide to seniors’
housing and care, announced today a partnership that will see The
Care Guide adopted as ORCA’s official directory partner.
“By the year 2006, one in five Canadians will be over the
age of 65,”said Gord White, Executive Director at ORCA. “Information
for this exploding segment of the population is in high demand;
this partnership is in keeping with ORCA’s commitment to improving
consumer access to information that will help seniors and their
families choose an appropriate care option that will best suit their
needs. The Care Guide is the most comprehensive directory of its
kind in Canada.” ORCA represents approximately 60% of the
retirement homes in Ontario, which are home to almost 21,000 seniors.
“The operation of retirement homes in Ontario is not regulated
by government. Consequently, there is a wide range of quality of
retirement homes across the province. ORCA members are the only
retirement residences that are accredited and meet professional
operating standards“, said Derek Mercey, Vice President of
The Care Guide. “We’re proud to be partnering with ORCA
on informing seniors and their families about the continuum of care
choices. We share ORCA’s commitment to promoting consumer
choice”.
The Care Guide currently publishes editions in the GTA, Southwestern
Ontario and Northern/Eastern Ontario on a biannual basis. The guide
includes a complete listing of seniors’ housing and care options
along with guidance and tips on the housing identification process
and choosing the most appropriate provider.
The partnership will include:
- Semi-annual publication schedule, including up-to-date information
on ORCA member retirement homes
- eduction in production and distribution costs for ORCA, enabling
ORCA to focus on its advocacy and professional development mandate
- Enhanced profile for ORCA member homes through regional publication
of guides
“Historically, ORCA published its own directory of member
homes and the circulation was a fraction of that of The Care Guide,
which distributes 250,000 copies of its guide every year. Our partnership
will increase visibility for our members and enable consumers to
better recognize the significance of ORCA accreditation as a guarantee
of quality, “ said Debbie Doherty, ORCA President.
