Keep Shining the Light:
A Call to Witness in a Time of War
January 24, 2006
You are invited to help continue the important work of Torontonian
Jim Loney who, along with three other
peace workers, went missing in Iraq nearly two months ago. Come
to the final event of Christian Peacemaker Teams' SHINE THE LIGHT
campaign in Toronto.
Please join in a time of public witness: Sunday, January 29, at
4:45 pm, beginning in Dundas Square (corner of Yonge and Dundas:
Dundas Subway Station).
Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) is inviting supporters around
the world to continue to "Shine the Light" on the U.S.
lead occupation of Iraq and the horror it produces in the lives
of so many thousands of ordinary Iraqis. We all remember the horrific
photographs from Abu Ghraib Prison, one of the U.S. prisons in Iraq.
Our procession from Dundas Square to the Peace Garden (Toronto City
Hall) will be lead by people dressed in hoods, representing all
Iraqis held illegally. After a time of vigil, we will proceed to
the U.S. Consulate, which represents the government responsible
for the war in Iraq. We will continue our call for justice for the
16 000 Iraqis detained without trial by U.S. troops and for an end
to the occupation of Iraq. Please bring flashlights, as big as possible,
in order to shine your own light on the Consulate.
You are also invited to join in a daily vigil and procession. Each
day until January 28 we will gather for a prayer vigil at 5:30 pm
at the Peace Garden (Nathan Philip Square, Toronto City Hall) followed
by a candlelight procession to the U.S. consulate.
