IAPA among Top 100 Employers for fourth year

For Immediate Release

(November 4, 2003) The Industrial Accident Prevention Association (IAPA), Canada's largest health and safety association, has been named one of Canada's top 100 employers for 2004, marking four consecutive years of receiving the distinction.

Celebrating its 86th year of business, IAPA was among a select, few not-for-profits chosen by the editors of the 2004 edition of Canada's Top 100 Employers, from an initial 51,000 interested, Canada-wide companies. The 225 employee, Ontario based association, is an industry leader in the development and delivery of health and safety solutions for its member firms. The organization has been profiled among the nation's finest employers, noted for best practices in recruitment, retention and opportunities for advancement, since the inaugural edition of the book, authored by Richard Yerema.

The association's challenging work environment, array of health, safety, wellness and professional development opportunities for its employees, distinguished it from a wide range of employers, offering a variety of benefits and working conditions.

Only 6,000 of the 51, 000 employers were invited to submit a detailed application to the competition. After careful review of their recruitment histories, the resulting 100 employers were selected as industry leaders in attracting and retaining quality employees.

"I'm thrilled and encouraged that we have made the list again and I'm especially proud of our employees," said Maureen Shaw, President and CEO of the association. "It's their commitment, that brings us closer to our vision of, 'A world where risks are controlled, because everyone believes suffering and loss are morally, socially and economically unacceptable,' and we're doing everything we can to meet their job expectations." The turnover rate at IAPA has been consistently less than two per cent annually.

A member-driven organization, IAPA is an internationally recognized leader in occupational health and safety. It has a membership of over 47,000 Ontario firms representing over 1.5 million employees.

"Your achievement is especially notable this year as there were a record number of employers interested in this year's competition," the author and the publisher, advised IAPA.

"To thrive in today's competitive labour market, non-profit associations are increasingly offering employee benefits once available only in the private sector. IAPA provides a textbook example of how a non-profit association can borrow effective human resource techniques from the private sector to create a wonderful work environment," the author, Richard Yerema asserts in the book.

IAPA's key products include, classroom, in-plant and web-based training, high-impact, solutions-based consulting, educational products and information services, for improved workplace health and safety
