Position: Campaigns Coordinator

This position will be based in Ottawa or Toronto, subject to negotiation.
It is a 6-month full-time employee position, with the possibility of extension.

About Independent Jewish Voices
Independent Jewish Voices - Canada is a national human rights organization whose mandate is to promote a just resolution to the dispute in Israel and Palestine through the application of international law and respect for the human rights of all parties. Founded in 2008, IJV has local chapters in Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg, Vancouver, and Victoria.

Overview of position

Under the direction of the IJV Personnel Committee, the Campaigns Coordinator will work with members of the steering committee and local IJV chapters to advance the campaigns and public engagement efforts of the organization. The job is to assist IJV members in carrying out the organization's strategic campaigns and related communications and fund-raising activities.

Primary Responsibilities

Campaigns and Organizing:
Facilitate IJV members implementing campaigns for boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until it complies with international law, including a Settlement Boycott campaign and a campaign to challenge the Jewish National Fund's legitimacy.

Contribute to the development and implementation of IJV's communications and campaign strategies, in consultation with the IJV Communications Committee

Fundraising and membership growth:
Provide support to IJV's Membership and Fund-raising committees to increase membership and raise funds as part of the campaigns strategies.

Personal values, work style, and experience

- Passion for human rights and commitment to the values of IJV, including social justice, democracy, and equality

- Familiarity with Jewish Canadian culture and politics

- Ability to work independently, as well as with a pan-Canadian steering committee

- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines

- Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally on behalf of IJV, as required

- A post-secondary education or equivalent experience in human rights, political science, international relations, or another related field

Organizing and Campaigning

- Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute strategic plans for campaigns

- Experience working in coalitions and networks


- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills

- Demonstrated experience with developing communications for campaigns with at least one civil society organization (including media relations, research, writing, and message development)

- Good understanding of federal and international politics, especially in relation to the Middle East & Israel/Palestine

- Good knowledge and understanding of the Canadian media landscape

- Solid understanding of social media skills and strategies

- The ability to communicate effectively in both English and French will be considered an asset


- Experience with grassroots fundraising

- Experience with cultivating new members and retaining existing members

Salary: $15,000 for the period of the 6-month position plus 10% increment in lieu of pension and health plan.
