For Immediate Release
Brampton, ON Housekeeping staff at the Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott in Brampton are the latest hospitality sector workers to join the IAMAW.
These workers were seeking better wages and fairness on the job, explained IAMAW District Lodge 78 Organizer Scott Jackson. I cant say enough about the hard work of Organizer Roy Bhansingh during this campaign. He kept this group together during a very active and tough employer counter-union effort. The fact that Machinist members at the Courtyard Inn by Marriott across the street earn $2.50 an hour more doing the same job was a key factor in the campaign.
The 12 new members will join IAMAW Local Lodge 1295. The IAMAW represents workers at six hotels in Ontario.
IAMAW, among the largest industrial trade unions in North America, represents more than 700,000 active and retired members, and administers more than 5,000 contracts in transportation, woodworking, aerospace, manufacturing and defense related industries.
