Charges withdrawn against Paving Scam ringleader
December 22, 2008
In July 2008, Michael White 47 of the United Kingdom was charged with numerous criminal charges including fraud, extortion, threatening bodily harm, intimidation and conspiracy. The charges stem from numerous complaints related to driveway paving scams throughout Ontario. Law Enforcement sources described the fraudulent activity as follows: a member of a construction/paving crew would typically knock on doors of homeowners and businesses. They would then explain that they had extra asphalt left over from a previous job and offered cut-rate prices. But once the job began that cheap rate would be gone and the scammers would demand exorbitant prices, often threatening and intimidating victims.
Mr. White retained Lenny Hochberg as his lead counsel. He was released on $25,000.00 cash bail. On December 22, 2008 all charges against Michael White were withdrawn.
