Second Indian journalist killed this month

October 31, 2015

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) condemns the murder of an Indian journalist in Bihar in northern India on October 24. The IFJ demand immediate action from the Indian government to end the attacks and violence against the country’s media community and to end the growing culture of impunity.

On Saturday, October 24, Mithilesh Pandey, a 40-year-old reporter with Dainik Jagran, an online Hindi newspaper, was killed in his home. According to police reports, Pandey was killed when three masked intruders stormed his house and opened fire as his slept. An investigation has been launched. Pandey’s family said that prior to his murder he had been receiving death threats and had informed police of this.

The IFJ expresses condolences to the family and colleagues of Mithilesh Pandey, who is the sixth journalist to be killed in India this year.
