Set during the 1992-1993 War in Abkhazia, Tangerines is an Estonian-Georgian film that examines themes of conflict, war, reconciliation, and pacifism.

In a rural village of ethnic Estonians in Abkhazia, a Russion-backed separatist region in the newly independent Georgia, Ivo and Margus are the only two of their once large community who have not fled to Estonia following the outbreak of the war, as Margus attempts to harvest his tangerine crop. After a shootout in front of Margus' house, two soldiers from opposite sides of the war are left gravely injured, and Ivo decides to take them both in and nurse them back to health. Under Ivo's roof, the film examines the changing dynamic between the soldiers.
