What Would Jesus Buy? is a docu-comedy film that follows the exploits of satirical group Reverand Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir, portrayed by activist Bill Talen and his troupe of street theatre performers. Although founded as a performance collective rather than an actual religious organization, members of the group express spiritual viewpoints against ecessive consumerism, focusing on such issues as the commercialization of Christmas, materialism, overconsumption in American culture, globalization, and the business practices of large corporations.

The film follows Reverand Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir as they embark on a cross-country trip during December 2005 to stop the Shopocalypse by spreading their message against what they perceive to be the evil of consumerism.
