The City of Calgary W.O. Mitchell Book Prize


Deadline: December 31, annually

Eligibility: Fiction, poetry, non-fiction, children's literature and drama. Publication date no later than December 31 of the previous year. The author must be a Calgary resident on December 31 of the event year and for a minimum of two years prior.

Value: $5000 cash prize.

Description: The City of Calgary Book Prize is awarded in honour of acclaimed Calgary writer W.O. Mitchell and recognizes literacy achievement by Calgary authors. Awarded annually for an outstanding book published in the previous year. Sponsored by the City of Calgary and the Writers Guild of Alberta.

Further Details: Entries may be submitted by authors, publishers, or any interested parties. A $25 fee per entry per category was requested for 2014 Prize submissions.
