Writers Guild of Alberta Annual Awards

Deadline: December 15, annually.

Eligibility: Eligible books published anywhere in the world between January 1 and December 31. The authors will have been resident in Alberta for at least 12 of the 18 months prior to the deadline. Contact the WGA for more details.

Value: $1000 and leather-bound copies of winning books.

Description: Henry Kreisel Award for Best First Book, Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama, Stephan G. Stephansson Award for Poetry, R. Ross Annett Award for Children's Literature, Georges Bugnet Award for Novel, Wilfred Eggleston Award for Non-Fiction, and the Howard O'Hagan Award for Short Fiction.

Further Details: Unpublished manuscripts, except in the drama category, are not eligible. Except in the drama category, anthologies are not eligible. Full length radio plays which have been published in anthologies are eligible. Five copies of each book or registered play must be submitted to the WGA office. Another three copies of each book must be submitted for books which are also entering the City of Edmonton or Calgary category. Works may be submitted by authors, publishers or any interested parties.
