August 18, 2008 -- For Immediate Release
Toronto - STOTT PILATES and Can-Fit-Pro announce a successful world record attempt for the largest Pilates class following an invigorating workout that served as the grand finale of the Can-Fit-Pro Consumer Fitness and Wellness Show in Toronto on Saturday, August 16.
A total of 623 fitness enthusiasts of all ages and abilities inhaled and exhaled their way through the half-hour workout led by Moira Merrithew, co-founder and executive director of education at STOTT PILATES and an internationally-recognized Pilates educator and mind-body fitness expert. The workout followed introductory remarks from Lindsay G. Merrithew, co-founder, president and CEO of STOTT PILATES who has led the development of the company's innovative equipment line.
"There was a real energy and excitement in the room people moved together to create fitness history," said Lindsay G. Merrithew, president and CEO of STOTT PILATES. "Beyond achieving an unofficial world record, this class was also a powerful demonstration of mind-body fitness as a growing part of people's exercise interests."
The World's Largest Pilates Class was held in celebration of Can-Fit-Pro's 15th and STOTT PILATES' 20th anniversaries. Pilates is a rapidly-growing fitness activity with more than 10.7 million people in North America participating in some form of Pilates, according to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association.
According to Guinness World Records, a total of 500 participants were required to break the record, with all participants performing the exercises simultaneously for a minimum of 10 minutes.
