Northern bishop to speak at Alexandria-Cornwall parishes, schools Feb. 12-20

February 10, 2011

February 10, 2011: A bishop from the North, Bishop Reynald Rouleau, O.M.I., of the Diocese of Churchill-Hudson Bay in Nunavut and Northern Manitoba, will speak at parishes and schools in the Diocese of Alexandria-Cornwall near Ottawa from February 12 to 20.

Bishop Paul-Andre Durocher of Alexandria-Cornwall in Ontario has invited Bishop Rouleau to help raise awareness and support for missions funded by Catholic Missions In Canada, an organization that assists poor and isolated mission churches in the North and across Canada.

The Diocese of Churchill-Hudson Bay, one of the mission dioceses in the North, covers most of the Nunavut territory. With exception of its capital (Churchill in the province of Manitoba), all other parishes of the diocese are located in Nunavut.

The diocese has a population of over 33,000, mostly Inuit, spread over 1,932,255 sq km, or the size of Western Europe.

On Saturday, February 12, and Sunday February 13, Bishop Rouleau will preside at Masses at Sainte-Thrse-de-Lisieux parish in Cornwall.

On Tuesday, February 15, the bishop will speak before Grades 11 and 12 religion classes at Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School, also in Cornwall.

On Wednesday, February 16, Bishop Rouleau will speak before Grade 12 students at St. Josephs Catholic Secondary School. The bishop will also meet with the schools Mission & Development and Peace Social Justice youth groups.

In the evening, at 7 p.m., the bishop will address parishioners and the community at St. Peter Church in Cornwall.

On Saturday, February 19, and Sunday, February 20, Bishop Rouleau will preside at Masses at St. Finnans Cathedral in Alexandria, a community of 5,000 people, about a 45-minute drive away from Cornwall.

Founded in 1908 under papal mandate, Catholic Missions In Canada (www.cmic.info) has been supporting poor and remote missions across Canada to keep churches open and the sacraments and pastoral ministries available to faith communities.
