Religious Minorities Should Fight Hatred Together
January 22, 2010
A new Gallup Poll shows that feelings of prejudice towards Jews and Muslims are linked.
The complete poll, to be released at 10 a.m. today at http://www.muslimwestfacts.com, also found that hatred towards Muslims was based on ignorance and misinformation about Islam.
The findings should encourage representatives from both of these communities to work together in educating the public, according to Omar Ha-Redeye, a law student at the University of Western Ontario.
"Those of us working in the area of advocacy have long known that animosity towards marginalized groups and their exclusion are linked, even between groups that do not appear to be related," said Ha-Redeye.
"Hopefully people will realize with this poll that it does take all of us to work together to make a more inclusive society."
