Canada's New Democratic Party offers Canadians an alternative political vision based on the principles of democratic socialism. As the political movement that initiated Medicare, the Old Age Pension and other vital programs for people, we seek to protect and expand these programs which we believe can be accomplished through prudent and effective government and through a truly fair tax system. The New Democratic Party is affiliated with the Socialist International, a worldwide association of social democratic and labour parties that seek social justice and world peace and that reject all forms of totalitarian rule.
