Information and Privacy Commissioner/Ontario
The Commissioner oversees Ontario's provincial and municipal access to information and privacy protection acts. The office has two main responsibilities: ensuring the public's right of access to government-held information; and protecting the individual's right of privacy, as it relates to personal information held by provincial and local government organizations. Anyone not satisfied with a government decision about access to information may ask the Commissioner to review the government's decision. In addition, the Commissioner investigates complaints from individuals who feel the government has wrongfully collected, used or disclosed their personal information. The Commissioner reports directly to the Legislative Assembly.
