ADCO Kids Helping Kids Walkathon to take place May 4 to 15
March 20, 2015
Every year since 1987, members of the Association of Day Care Operators of Ontario have coordinated an annual fundraising walk in support of Ontario's four regional children's hospitals. This year's event will take place during the weeks of May 4 to 15. During that period, independent licensed child care centres that are members of ADCO will do their walks on days, at times and in locations that are convenient to them.
The 2015 ADCO Kids Helping Kids Walkathon is coordinated by the Association of Day Care Operators of Ontario. More than 5,000 children will be involved in raising awareness and funds for Torontos SickKids Hospital, McMaster Childrens Hospital, the Childrens Hospital of Eastern Ontario and the London Childrens Health Foundation.
The enthusiasm of the owners, managers, staff, families and children at ADCO member centres are what make this event possible, explains Erla McCaig, this years volunteer chair and owner of Peekaboo Child Care in Kitchener. "Over the years, the ADCO Kids Helping Kids Walkathon has raised more than a million dollars for this most worthy cause."
Almost every centre that participates in the ADCO Walkathon has a special connection to the childrens hospital they choose to support. Sometimes, a centres walk is about a child from the centre who is being treated at a particular hospital, sometimes its to show support for a family who has suffered the loss of a child, and sometimes its about an incredible story of survival. The ADCO Walkathon is a great way for children to learn about reaching out to others and giving back to the community.
