Inhance Moves Companies to Action
April 6, 2009
VANCOUVER, April 7, 2009 - Inhance Investment Management Inc. today released Dialogue to Deeds – 2009, its second annual report detailing how environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues affect shareholder value.
Inhance, which is one of Canada′s leading socially responsible mutual fund companies, engaged companies in eight key areas including: climate change, environmental performance, land use and community engagement, lifecycle impacts of products, human rights, sustainability reporting, diversity and health and safety. In total 19 companies were the subject of 25 points of engagement.
"Environmental, social and governance risks can impact a company′s profitability and long term shareholder value," said Dermot Foley, Vice President of Strategic Analysis at Inhance. "We believe that as the relationship between the economy, society and the environment becomes increasingly complex, companies need to address ESG risks pro-actively and constructively. As shareholders we take responsibility for bringing issues forward and seeking appropriate disclosure of management strategies and responses."
The UN Principles for Responsible Investment have been adopted by 396 institutional investors and asset managers including some of the world′s largest pension funds. These principles explicitly recognize that environmental, social and governance issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios. Inhance Investment Management was the first Canadian mutual fund company to adopt the UNPRI.
