Staycation: home vacations popularity growing

May 22, 2009

Halifax, NS - As summer quickly approaches; people are starting to plan how they′re going to spend their much deserved time off. Normally this would be an exciting time but with the economy in today′s state, people are looking for different ideas. Staycation is a term referring to vacationing at home and exploring what it has to offer.

"Vacationing from home is a great way to save money and use your time wisely. Planning a trip can be stressful and planning to stay home is a lot more relaxing for a lot of people," says Colette Robicheau, a professional organizer and life coach. Many people are also more conscious of the environmental impact of travel, do not like to fly or are just too tired to take on another large project like a vacation.

"Staycations are a great because they give people the opportunity to see things in their community that they normally wouldn′t be able to. Also, they′re cheaper and can be less stressful than going away because you avoid things like airport line-ups, delays, schedules, passport forms and more. These vacations don′t always require you to explore your town, there are other things that you can do such as host a party, redecorate your home or relax in your own, familiar surroundings. Robicheau helps clients look at opportunities for staycations whether they be formal or informal. Some involve setting boundaries like no house work or others involve creating a list of fun options that can be done daily.
