CMA Canada to receive the Canada Awards for Excellence gold trophy

MISSISSAUGA, ON -- (September 19, 2011) – Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA Canada) has been selected by the National Quality Institute (NQI) as a recipient of the gold trophy within the Canada Awards for Excellence for having fully met NQI’s Quality Criteria, with documented overall achievements and results.

“Our team is most proud and honoured to have met the requirements for national recognition within the Canada Awards for Excellence at the gold trophy level,” said Joy Thomas, president and CEO, CMA Canada. “Our quest for quality has allowed us to cultivate a culture of continuous improvement that is felt at all levels of our organization, throughout every department.”

The Canada Awards for Excellence is an annual awards program under the Vice-Regal Patronage of the Governor General of Canada. Celebrating its 27th anniversary, the prestigious awards program recognizes business excellence in quality, customer service, and a healthy workplace. To be considered for the Canada Awards for Excellence, organizations must have participated in the National Quality Institute Progressive Excellence Program (NQI PEP®) and achieved Level 3 or Level 4 certification.

The levels of NQI PEP® are progressive in scope, designed so that organizations can be externally recognized at different levels, thereby assisting in sustaining a focus on excellence through quality and continuous improvement. CMA Canada previously achieved certification for NQI PEP® Levels 1, 2 and 3 between 2004 and 2009. On June 13, 2011, after a comprehensive review of the organization’s application and an on-site verification, CMA Canada learned that Level 4 certification was granted.

“Over the past eight years, we have seen results in reduced costs for the organization, improved processes and reduced cycle times. We have focused on our employee satisfaction and stringently captured and responded to the needs of our various customer groups,” said Lianne Thompson, director of quality, CMA Canada. “Eight years might seem a long time to be on the road to quality. But that’s the thing about organizational excellence: there’s no quick fix or shortcut, and we’ve come to appreciate the progressive approach.”

CMA Canada will be presented with the trophy at the Canada Awards for Excellence awards ceremony on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, at the Westin Harbour Castle.
