What will Queen Elizabeth Snack on During the Canada Day Pageantry?

June 28, 2010

With royalty in town and 143 years of a nation’s history to celebrate, riceworks® Gourmet Brown Rice Crisps is looking forward to meeting snack lovers face to face in Ottawa this coming July 1, 2010.

Reaching out locally this summer, riceworks® is attending community events across Canada and in parts of the United States. “Canada Day is the unofficial kick-off of our summer campaign, featuring two exciting contests,” says Tricia Ryan, Director of Marketing for riceworks®, of Shearer’s Foods Canada, Inc.

Brand ambassadors of riceworks® will be in Confederation Park on Canada Day – just steps from the appropriately named Queen Elizabeth Driveway – while the Queen and Prince Phillip are in Ottawa. Handing out free samples, the riceworks’® team will challenge snack lovers with the declaration, “Your snack works – riceworks better.” Going local presents the opportunity to explain the benefits of healthier snacking without finger wagging.

Will riceworks® bring the challenge to the royals?

“Wouldn’t that be great?” laughs Ms Ryan. “Not knowing what’s stored in Her Majesty’s Royal pantry, I’d probably say ‘Your biscuits, humbugs and toffees work,” say Ms Ryan, “but riceworks better!’”

Canada day marks the beginning of two summer-long contests, supporting this campaign. The first contest takes this challenge online, inviting participants to demonstrate “How riceworks Better” for them.

The first contest is at howriceworksbetter.com

Would you shoot a 1-minute video of yourself skydiving while snacking on riceworks® Gourmet Brown Rice Crisps? Or compose a limerick using riceworks® in a recipe? Either endeavor constitutes a viable entry for the “How riceworks Better” contest. The prizes? Enough riceworks product to fulfill the winner’s suggestion, plus $4,000.

Contestants enter at howriceworksbetter.com anytime before midnight on September 30, 2010. They can type their entry there or upload an image or link to a video or audio file. Entries can be up to 300 words or one minute long. An independent panel of judges will select what they deem the best, once each month, in July, August and September. Entries will be scored for: originality, 50%; and creativity, 50%.

It’s also the launch of the riceworks recipeworks cookbook contest.

Do you ever cook with riceworks®? If “How riceworks Better” for you is in a unique recipe, you may want to enter the popular snack’s other contest at riceworksrecipeworks.com. Running concurrently, “riceworks recipeworks” will select 50 recipes containing riceworks to appear in a cookbook coming out in time for the holidays. Proceeds will go to charity.

“It’s the next step in an ongoing campaign which riceworks started just before last year’s holidays,” reminisces Ms Ryan. “That contest, ‘Show Us Your Goodness’, also raised funds for charity. But this year, we’re blending ‘riceworks recipeworks’ and ‘How riceworks Better’ with these outdoor summer promotions like the Royal event on Canada Day.”

Where she’s hoping to get plenty of attention from the likes of Her Majesty, Prince Phillip and thousands of celebrating Canadians.
