Independent Jewish Voices Toronto protests Jewish National Fund’s role in Bedouin home demolitions

TORONTO – The Toronto chapter of Independent Jewish Voices is calling for an end to the Jewish National Fund’s role in evicting Bedouin citizens of Israel from their homes in order to expand Jewish settlement in the country’s Negev region. More than 90,000 Bedouins, the indigenous inhabitants of the Negev (Naqab) desert live in “unrecognized “ villages with no access to water, electricity, infrastructure health services or education. The Jewish National Fund’s strategy of reforestation has forced Bedouin from their ancestral lands and into impoverished and neglected townships created for them on a fraction of their former lands.

Independent Jewish Voices is planning to distribute information about the Jewish National Fund’s complicity with Bedouin eviction outside a JNF fundraising event for their Negev projects at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel at 5 PM Sunday, November 20.
